Great value for a starter set
June 21, 2014
This was a great value for rebuilding my club set. I had stepped away from golf for quite a few years. After getting back into the game it became immediately evident that I needed a new set of clubs. Not wanting to spend too much I purchased this set for $99 on RBG and it was the perfect purchase.
These are solid clubs. I've used the driver quite a bit and found that it has a fairly small sweet spot. However, if struck just right the feel and the sound is unmistakable and the ball really flies. Granted, I'm not the best at swinging a driver, but if done correctly, this driver does the job.
I was a little reticent about using the 3 and 5 woods. These do not have the tall forgiving face of typical fairway woods and they intimidated me a little. I found myself leaving them in the bag and using my irons instead because I was skulling or chunking the ball. A golfing buddy gave me the bit of advice that revealed the secret of using these woods; think of them as more like irons than woods. Striking slightly down on the ball rather than sweeping the ball made all the difference in the world. After hitting half a bucket at the range with them I finally felt comfortable. They have a nice solid feel and sound to them when stuck correctly, and the ball FLIES. There is beautiful loft with the 5, and the 3 easily carries 200 yards. I now love them and feel they are better than the traditional high profile woods.
Pros:Value. These are well-made clubs for not a lot of money.
Cons:None really. The lower profile of the 3 and 5 woods requires some adjustment, but once mastered it's no problem
