A Great Set "IF".....!
October 6, 2015
I really, really, really wanted to bond with this set of clubs. Everything that I've purchased by Callaway was an instant love, but it just didn't happen with the Edge Hybrid set. Why? Because I've played a set of forged Hogan irons since 1996 and that "feel" is wired into me as much as my own DNA it seems. I'm going to either give them to a brother as a gift (if he's interested) or list them locally for a quick sell and buy a couple of wedges I've been wanting.
Pros:Stunning looks! A real confidence builder as far as design. They are not difficult to hit. They will deliver excellent distance! I found myself hitting amazingly long PW shots. They will keep you closer to your target if you suffer a mishit. They are incredibly accurate when you strike them well - or "near well". There were a lot of good straight hits at the driving range.
Cons:The main con for me is the feel. I'm just going to have to save up for a forged set to replace my Hogans. I also had to adjust to a greater offset than my Hogan Edge irons, but that's no big deal. My only other con most likely just another mental thing. Hybrids look so similar to woods that it takes a bit more concentration to hit them like an iron. However, if you hit these hybrids as you should - they go long and straight.
