Made with a hollow forged construction and a High-Strength Maraging Steel face that produces high ball speeds, X Utility Prototype Irons have quickly become the #1 Utility irons at PGA Tour events. They're available in three different lofts - 18, 21, 24 - and feature a shallow face height with a deep center of gravity and a strong sound at impact. These Tour-focused utility irons provide elite players with a versatile option on tight tee shots and approach shots from the fairway or rough.

  • Callaway Chief Designer Roger Cleveland relieved the heel and toe of these utility irons so that they move through grass easier and penetrate tougher lies in the rough. They also feature more weight at the bottom and a deep CG to help create higher launch angles
  • Forged construction is designed for excellent feel along with a High-Strength Maraging Steel face to produce fast ball speeds
  • Weight screw is used to optimize the weight of the club. The design also allows for more options from a variety of lies
  • Callaway X Utility Prototype irons have been the #1 Utility irons at PGA Tour events, where players like Phil Mickelson, Kelly Kraft and Ernie Els are using them inside the ropes. Els used three of them during his thrilling win at the Open Championship.

    Great club
    October 27, 2013
This line of utility irons is the best out there for sure. I own the 4 iron replacement and let me tell you this thing is beautiful. I'm not the best golfer in the world, but this thing is super easy to hit straight and long. If you're in the market for a new hybrid, or want to try something a bit different definitely give this a go.

    Could be a Game Changer
    August 29, 2013
I've only had this on the course for a couple rounds and haven't taken too many shots with it (haven't been to a course that requires the 4 iron to be in demand), but I have hit some real beauts with it. I hit a couple stinkers, too, but the majority have been nice. The club looks great and gives you a lot more confidence than a typical long iron. The feel is superb on well struck shots, like the ball wasn't even there and you were taking a practice swing. I don't carry a 4 iron a ton, so I haven't worked out the distance much yet and am not sure if it's considered long, average, etc. It feels about the same as when I did play a 4 in the past. If you like playing long irons and want to make it a little easier on yourself, give these a serious look. If you like hybrids but want something that might have a little more utility and is just as easy to hit, this just might be the club.

Very good club if you are consistent. If you hit it in the sweet spot it's amazing feels like hitting nothing but if you don't you'll know it and the results will show.
Forged feel Low boring flight Distance
Grip is not lined up correctly and slippery

    Best Hybrid Ever Hit
    June 20, 2013
Callaway bills this as a club for better players. I'm not one of them (12 HC), but this is my favorite club in the bag. Forgiving and workable, this club rockets a fast, mid-trajectory ball anywhere I want it. The pairing of the forged head and the stiff, graphite shaft is really sweet. And, this club is very useful with low flying punches under all-too-often-blocked-by trees and running chips around the green. Absolute winner from Callaway here.

Best Utility club on the market!!
    May 31, 2013
I have hit every utility club out there from Adams, Taylormade, etc. this club is wonderful to hit from the tee and off the turf, either fairway or rough, even bunker. The wide sole allows for great turf interaction and glides through like butter.
Forged feel Great from all types of lies Versatile from tee to green.
