What Complete Golf Set Should You Buy?

When selecting a complete golf set, especially for new golfers, focus on sets that include essential clubs like drivers, woods, irons, and a putter, tailored to your physical attributes like height and strength. Key factors to consider are shaft length, weight, and flexibility, as well as clubhead design.

New Golfer And Complete Golf Set Buying Tips

The equipment you select can positively or negatively impact your golf game, especially as a new golfer. The core of those equipment choices is the clubs. You will not fare well on the course without the appropriate clubs for your golf game. There are several considerations for golfers of all levels when choosing clubs like drivers or putters. Every detail in a driver, putter, iron, or wood can influence your score. So, what do you do when you are a beginner without the clubs you need to play your best?

Naturally, a new player must have a set of essential clubs before stepping onto the golf course. In this case, a complete set might be the best choice. Before you dive into selecting your clubs, a basic knowledge of club basics can help you understand some things to look for when choosing your perfect set of clubs.

The Basics Of Choosing Clubs

We have a library of club buying tips and guides HERE, but read on for a few essentials about golf clubs to get you started in the right direction. Whether you are buying one club or an entire set, there is one common denominator that you cannot ignore. That denominator is YOU! Your club or club set needs to work with your game, regardless of your level of play. Here are some things to look for.

(Also, if you need to brush up on golf lingo, check out our golf glossary!)

Shaft Length

The shaft length of the clubs is a significant consideration. You need to ensure your clubs' shaft length is sized correctly for your height. If you don't, you will not be able to swing fluidly, which can negatively impact your golf game. And this applies to any club or set of clubs. Also, it's important to note that, except for junior golf sets (see below), most complete golf sets come equipped with standard-length shafts.

Shaft Weight And Flex

Beyond just the proper sizing of the club shaft, there are other factors to keep in mind during club selection. The weight of the shaft can inhibit the swing speed of new or less experienced players. Naturally, less swing speed means less power and less distance. Lighter materials like graphite allow players with slower swing speeds to generate more inertia when they swing.

The shaft flex can also increase ball speed. Less experienced players or those with less upper body strength can benefit from a more flexible club shaft. However, using a flex that is not stiff enough can also negatively affect performance, resulting in shots that send the ball off in unintended directions.

Clubheads

Along with club shaft characteristics, there are numerous options for the clubheads. There are multiple choices for just about every type of club. What is essential is to make sure your clubs match your style. For players with less swing speed or experience, some of whom are beginners, you want clubs that make it easier to hit the ball and generate more power. Manufacturers compensate for this need by offering countless innovations. A few examples are bigger clubheads, enhanced striking areas, stronger lofts for more height, and perimeter weighting to help you complete your swinging motion with greater success. Factors like these should be considered, whether buying one club or the entire set. Also, getting your clubs fitted at your local pro shop can help you decide what is best for you and your game.

Buying Individual Clubs Versus A Complete Set

With so many club options, why buy a complete set of clubs? There are several reasons why a complete set of clubs is the right choice. For new or beginner players, it can be a necessity. You cannot take the course without a complete set of the essential clubs you will need. It would help if you had the core lineup of a driver, woods, irons, and a putter at the bare minimum. While some sets offer this, you may also want to ensure you have wedges, multiple irons with different lofts, and a hybrid. These can also be part of the basic set. They are all used for the various situations you will likely encounter while playing.

For a beginner player recently introduced to the game of golf, it is only necessary to have the "basic" clubs needed while learning to play. As your game improves and your experience grows, you can start to add more clubs into the bag for specific situations, lies, distances, and playing styles. The most important part is to master the fundamentals of the game from tee to green.

Value is another area to consider when buying a complete set of clubs. Many times, a complete set features critical extras that you should have. And this can include things like a golf bag and club head covers—all things you want before you step foot on the course.

A Sample Breakdown Of A Complete Set

Complete golf set manufacturers often include exclusive features that energize any golf game. And purchasing from an established golf manufacturer can be important when you invest in an entire lineup of clubs. Here is a popular set and a breakdown of what is included and how it can help you play better.

Tour Edge Golf Bazooka 470 Black Complete Set With Bag

The Tour Edge Golf Bazooka 470 Black Complete Set With Bag will get you on the course with advanced technological features in every club. Here is a breakdown of what is included in this set and some advanced features included in the different clubs.

Driver

You will be making powerful drives from your first tee-off with this aerodynamically designed club. The high-MOI 460cc Bazooka Black 10.5 degree driver has a new shape that powers tee shots with high-flying and accurate performance. It also has variable face thickness technology for long, powerful tee shots.

Fairway Wodds

The 470 Black set's all-new, more advanced head shapes for the 15-degree 3-wood and 19-degree 5-wood have a shallow face and a large sweet spot to help players get the ball up in the air and on target. And this will help you get the distance you need as you move closer to the green.

Hybrids

You may not be familiar with golf hybrids, but they might very well become your favorite clubs. Designed to be even lighter and more flexible than your fairway wood, these hybrids can help you make shots you otherwise couldn't make with a traditional wood or iron. The two included hybrid clubs are lightweight but have heads larger than the irons. In addition, their lofts are higher than any wood, which can help you make precision shots when you are deep on the fairway but need more height.

Irons

Many traditional irons could prove challenging to less experienced or beginner players. The irons included in your set are designed to counter those problems. Offering forgiveness and control, they will ensure you have the right club for the different distances you face as you approach the green.

Wedges

Two essential wedges come included with this high-quality golf set. The pitching wedge and sand wedge help you in some of the most critical situations a golfer will face, including the area outside the green that is too far for an iron. This set also contains the club you need to extract yourself from a bunker.

Putter

The 470 Black putter features a high-MOI design to maximize the putter's stability through the putting stroke. The result is better alignment at impact and straighter, more accurate putts. This balanced putter is easy to align and control. This putter can help you make more consistent shots on the green where it counts.

Stand Bag

A stand bag is included with this set. This bag is durable yet lightweight. Built with multiple compartments, you can store your clubs and other sundries match after match.

Junior Complete Golf Sets

So, what if the new golfer is a junior? Depending on how old they are, regular-sized clubs may not work for them. That's where junior golf gear comes in! And that includes complete junior golf sets with everything the budding junior golfer needs to get out and play their new favorite game, golf. Plus, don't forget the holidays (and birthdays) are always just around the corner. Gifting a complete golf set to your favorite new golf prodigy will probably make you the hero for the holidays!

The golf club that performs well for the pros on tour may not be the same club that works best for all golfers. You should be able to try different clubs to find the best one for your individual playing style even on a budget. That is why buying Pre-Owned Clubs is such an excellent and practical solution.

You do not have to purchase new to get a name-brand quality golf club. Our certified pre-owned clubs offer top-name brands at a lower price point. Many are also backed with our Certified Pre-Owned Guarantee. Each used club we receive is meticulously inspected and rated appropriately.

Taylor Made RBZ Speedlite 11 Piece Complete Set
Clubs are excellent. Learning how to hit them is another story. Didn’t do well first time out. Second outing was much better. Still learning the driver. Using senior shafts for the first time. Getting much more height from the irons. The rescue 4 is tremendous from the get go . Easy two to strike and getting great carry. Still having problem with mallet putter on how hard to strike the ball but overall a great set of clubs. Packing for all was fantastic with individual bubble wrap on every club. Would purchase again!
